Duo-tone is a darker cream on a lighter background. Very neutral and interesting. Text above print reads "EUROPE XVI SIECLE". Under print lithographers name, Toussaint lith, and Imp. Firmin-Didot & C Paris. About Le Costume historique & the Artist: Published in France between 1876 and 1888, Auguste Racinet's Le Costume historique has been called the most wide-ranging and intelligent study of clothing ever published. Racinet's lithographs are regarded as an extraordinary achievement in the history of the print-makers art. Coloured using stone plates, at the height of the chromolithograph era, the exquiste colour toning and detail of the figures are unsurpassed. Fabrics are luxuriously finished and metal objects when present are printed with silver or gold inks. Albert Charles Auguste Racinet: Paris, July 20, 1825 - Monfort-l'Amaury, October 29, 1893 Artist, designer lithographer, director of publishing, art historian. Print Condition: good, print bright and fresh, blank verso, age toning near page edge and one small smudge of ink in top left as seen in full scan. Not too distracting ** Print is sold unframed as shown in the full scan.
